Nursery

Physical Development

The children will be having as much outdoor play as the weather permits. It is important that a coat is brought every day and that it is labelled. The outdoor is resourced into the 6 learning areas and  each child choosing to play indoors or out is in a learning situation.

We want our children to develop both gross motor and fine motor skills while playing outside.

Creative Development

The children will be introduced to a variety of media and encouraged to develop their creative talents. They will explore, investigate, model and express themselves though creative activities. Each week we will all take part in singing, circle time and “show and tell”  and “talking partners”.

First Hand Experiences

Your child’s first experience of pre –school with strange adults and unknown children can prove very daunting for some children. You can make this transition from home to school more relaxing by talking about what will happen. Reassure your child by talking about what will happen, who will take them and pick them up from pre-school. Talk to them about the teachers, the building, the toys etc. Encourage them to be independent when going to the toilet, finding their name tag and hanging their coat up. Remember you might not be there next time they need the bathroom or their coat and some children may be too shy to ask a teacher for help!

Also remember that you may be more nervous than your child and they may pick up on your anxiety. Some children settle immediately, others may take weeks to settle. However long it takes it helps to maintain a routine and attend regularly to give your child stability and security. The staff are always available to discuss your child’s progress and it will be of benefit to their education and well being if home and school can build a working partnership together.
