Literacy
During our Literacy work the children will be reading stories with historical settings and stories set in imaginary worlds.
Features of non-fiction texts, in particular, newspapers and information texts will be explored and the children will also study aspects of poetry.
Weekly spellings should continue to be learnt and daily reading practice will be encouraged.
The children should continue to practice their joined up handwriting.
Mathematics
This term, the work in Numeracy consists of place value, ordering and rounding numbers, doubling and halving, addition and subtraction, reading numbers from scales, money, measures, shape, time, compass directions and fractions. In some of their work they will be using a calculator for calculations. The children will also be taught multiplication and division. It is much easier for the
children to do these if they know their tables.
It would be helpful if you could support your child with this.
Creative Curriculum
Our Creative Curriculum work will focus on aspects of WW2. The children will be encouraged to find out what life was like for children during this time. They will study what life was like on the Home Front, The Blitz, evacuation and rationing. They will have the opportunity to make shelters, wartime food, aeroplanes and toys, propaganda posters and to study the work of a war artist. Some of the questions they will be asked will include: -
- Why did WW2 happen?
- Who were the famous people in WW2?
- Was Leigh bombed and if not why?
- How could I stay safe?
- How would it feel to evacuated?
- What would my parents have been doing?
- What was rationing?
