Every Child A Reader

At Bedford Hall we see that Reading for pleasure has a dramatic impact on educational outcomes, mental wellbeing and is also a huge magical experience in itself. Reading ignites children's imagination. We want all children to have the opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of quality texts during their time in school ranging from classic to modern day authors. Bedford Hall aim to do this in a number of ways:- through our bespoke, 'Book as a Hook' curriculum, visits to school from authors and poets, celebrating World Book Day, reading study and communication lessons, class books shared in daily story time and of course independent reading opportunities.

Reading at Bedford Hall is 'inescapable.'

Promoting reading of a range of books – Non Fiction

Children are naturally fascinated by the lives of real people and the world around them and building background knowledge is key to children's knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Non-fiction books can turn a reluctant reader into an enthusiastic one!

Sharing lots of different kinds, or genres, of books with your child exposes them to different words, different kinds of images, extended knowledge and whole new worlds.

Please see attached some good websites which provide links to a range of top quality texts which will spark your child’s interest in non-fiction texts and link to the topics and themes within our curriculum.
