Year 3 have had a fantastic half term learning all about ancient Greece, how they have influenced the modern world and what life would have been like back in Ancient Athens and Sparta.
We learned lots of amazing facts, including how many things in present day actually originated in Ancient Greece, such as the Olympics, democracy, and even our Alphabet!
Whilst our special visitors from Ancient Greece were in class, we had the opportunity to dress up and perform some role play as Greek soldiers, philosophers and even the gorgon Medusa! The costumes were amazing and we had lots of fun imagining we were really performing on an Ancient Greek stage in Athens.
Over the term we have also looked at some of the stories that originated back in Ancient Greece, such as Perseus and the Minotaur and the story of Pandora’s Box. We had a fantastic time re-enacting the story of Perseus in our class led worship and put our art and D&T skills to the test creating our very own Pandora’s box.
We also made our very own Ancient Greek coins with clay which we then painted and displayed in our classroom. We think they look just like the real thing. In addition to this we looked in detail at Greek art and pottery and created some beautiful artwork around Greek pots that displayed scenes showing life in those times. We certainly have some budding artists in Year 3!
After all our hard work investigating what life in Ancient Greece was really like, we are still undecided as to whether we would want to live in Sparta or Athens! Tough choice!
