Year 5 marks the beginning of Upper Key Stage Two which means you’re nearing the end of your primary school career! On this page you’ll discover information about our timetables and expectations.
In Year 5, we will be learning lots of new things – our History topics will cover the local area and why coal and cotton have been so important to Leigh. We’ll also be looking further back in time to discover the legacy of the Ancient Greeks. In Geography, we’ll learn new mapping skills by using Ordnance Survey maps, study rivers and the water cycle and we’ll find out more about the wider world by learning about Brazil.
This year, Year 5 are very lucky to act as play leaders for Key Stage One children at lunchtimes. This means we get to celebrate and model our Christian Values to others in our school. We are always on the lookout for anyone living out our Values and nominate classmates for the Values Award which is presented every Friday. Mr Woodward is also always looking for his Star of the Week and recipients of the Resilience Award and the Spirit of the Games Award.
Things we need every day:
- Reading book and planner
- Water bottle
Our main PESSPA session is on Thursday so PE kits need to be worn on this day.
On Mondays we get our new spellings for the week. Part of our homework is to learn them throughout the week ready for a spelling test on Friday.
As part of our homework, we are expected to read at least four times per week at home. We ask that an adult signs their child’s planner so that our teachers can see that reading is taking place.
English and/or Maths homework is set on Thursdays and this needs to be brought back the following Monday. Sometimes homework will be written; other times it will an online activity on websites such as Times Tables Rockstars, Purple Mash or IXL.
If you ever need anything, Mr Woodward can be contacted directly on ClassDojo.
